DVN Connect Version 4.2.0.00502 Release Notes

DVN Connect Version 4.2.0.00502 Release Notes

DVN Connect Version 4.2.0.00502 Release Notes

New Features and Enhancements:

System Extension Support for MacOS Network Drivers:

Due to security improvements with the update to MacOS 11.0 (Big Sur), Apple no longer supports loading network drivers using kernel extensions. The new method of using system extensions in user space to load the drivers is now supported in DVN version 4.2.0. Installation of the 4.2.0 release requires MacOS build 10.15.5 (Catalina) or newer to support these new changes.

Layer 3 Web Access Service:

The new Layer 3 Web Service provides a web access gateway with much higher scalability than the current Layer 2 gateway implementation. While the Layer 2 service does not support mobile clients, the new Layer 3 Web Service supports all client platforms including MacOS, Windows, iOS and Android. The Layer 3 Web Service replaces the Layer 2 gateway service that was phased out for MacOS clients due to the security improvements in the latest MacOS update. If a Mac client has been provisioned for access to a L3 Web Service in Orchestrator, the user can choose to turn on or off the service from within the Connect Preferences window.

Performance Improvements for Linux Based Servers:

Performance improvements have been made for servers running the Linux operating system. For best performance, it is recommended to check the NIC ring buffer settings on each Linux server to ensure they are at an optimum value of 4096 for both Tx and Rx. Some Linux environments have a small NIC ring buffer of 256 packets configured by default.

MPLS Connectivity Fix:

Implemented an isolated update to resolve MPLS direct channel connectivity issue.

Known Issues and Limitations:

  1. At the end of the 4.2.0 upgrade process, MacOS clients require a reboot to complete the installation.
  2. If the system extension (VPN tunnel) disconnects from the Connect application, the Connect application will automatically reconnect. In rare cases, the reconnect attempt may fail and the Connect application registration page will be displayed. If this occurs, the user can recover by exiting the Connect application and then restarting.
  3. The Layer 2 Gateway and Layer 2 Web Service now only supports Windows clients in the 4.2.0 release. The Layer 3 Web Service replaces this functionality for all other operating systems and is supported by all platforms (MacOS/iOS/Android/Windows).
  4. The Layer 3 Web Service uses CGNAT to masquerade outgoing traffic. A single IP can support a maximum of 30K UDP and TCP ports. Depending on the number of expected sessions going through this gateway, the administrator should assign more than one IP address to the internet facing NIC. Adding a second IP address to the NIC increases the port count by another 30K UDP and TCP ports.
